It was a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun shone from a cloudless blue sky, Wayne Pacelle recalled, as he walked into a courtyard in Northeast Kansas last weekend to meet for the first time a man whose deeds he despises like no others. The setting, despite Pacelle's depiction, was not idyllic. It was the United States Penitentiary in Leavenworth, an infamous 22-acre gray edifice that once held Prohibition- and Depression-era gangsters Bugs Moran and Machine Gun Kelly, and has recently held political prisoners like American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of murdering two FBI agents.
Pacelle (pictured above right) is president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States. His host late last Sunday morning at Leavenworth prison was Michael Vick, our country's most-famous animal abuser.

I'm 100% with Wayne Pacelle. And I'm happy he told Vick that this won't be a one weekend thing. If Vick is truly ready to help, he can make a difference. And Pacelle won't be fooled, he will know if Vick is serious or not. Vick may have killed dogs but he now has a chance to avoid the same thing for hundreds of other pets.

Keep in mind that NFL is his trade, and we need to accommodate the whole person to reach his full potential as a person, and he will be more effective in all his pursuits including amends and wanting to help teach other people, as an animal rights group teammate. I think the animal awareness and understanding of instincts can also complement the learning of ethics and why certain boundaries are important - so we can see that the subject can go much deeper into ethical thinking abroad - as we will see with this endeavor.

I don't believe Vick needs to team up with Animals rights groups to be in the NFL. I do believe the NFL needs trust he will not be involved in dog fighting again, and he needs to pursue playing football for a living - unless he no longer loves the game. I think that teaming up with animal rights as a chosen community service is a good idea, but committing to it the rest of his life is unecessary. I think that he will naturally enjoy teaming up with animal groups to help teach youth and may find that it will be something he enjoys doing the rest of his life. I think he will probably have promotions with animal rights groups here and there the rest of his life - but as far as committing to a full time job with them - he shouldn't be pressured to do that - it may come naturally - it may be a side thing - he may have celeb status jobs in the future that would compliment him doing a charity with animal rights groups - but make him commit solely to animal rights - then your both shooting yourselves in the foot. He will be a positive force for animal rights no matter what, but he must be able to manage his own passions, and present the ideas that are meaningful to him.
He may still be in a learning phase as well, so
no longterm commitments for now outside of community service I say - only vision sharing and short term commitments - not long term commitments - then passion can be instilled, and direction analyzed.

"a man whose deeds he despises like no others."............A child molester or killer is not more despised. How about a murderer period! Daily we hear about some white man killing his wife and/or kids but nothing this man despises more is DOG FIGHTING. How about all the hunters SHOOTING & KILLING HELPLESS DEFENSELESS ANIMALS. I don't like or condone dog fighting but the voraciously way you white folks go after Vick over some dogs tell me how sick you people are that you give more of a damn for a dog than you do for humans. I guess your D-O-G IS YOUR G-O-D. THAT'S WHY YOU FOOLISHLY SAY "A DOG IS A MAN'S BEST FRIEND..................................THE CREATOR(GOD) IS MY BEST FRIEND.

It's really not about the dogs but about how much the uneducated love to hate black people.

(to mm3rdeye) you bring up an interesting point -
"white folk" - there is no such thing as white people or black people - look at the skin for a while African Americans are brown and Caucasian Americans are beige. Black and white are complete opposites in color codes and there were also other conspiratory meanings when we first started calling each other "black and white". Well, nobody nowadays has even noticed that it is a lie - we are all a shade of brown; but yea ALSO it is true that many people do like dogs more than people and something is not quite right about that - but if we actually look at things objectively and study it more closely - dogfighting is different than boxing - because once we put a dog in the ring we can tell him or stop him from hitting below the belt for instance, and it is not a good sport when it is difficult to break up the fight before one gets too hurt. That being said - we have to understand that the American culture really has not been up to speed yet on this subject, so people should understand that Vick and many other people simply didn't see dogfighting any differently from the sport of boxing - but yeah there is definitely a difference when you look at it more closely - which can be done if people just quit hating so much, and actually forgive and teach.

Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about, I didn't make the classifications up. Since you want to get technical the term african american is an error.Especially since the inhabitants of what is known as Africa didn't call their homeland Africa. The name come from a European by the name of Africanus.

Where Humane Society Donations Really Go ?
Not to help animals !!!
ATLANTA -- A Channel 2 investigation is looking into millions of dollars in donations given to the Humane Society of the United States.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Amanda Rosseter it isn't just consumers misunderstanding who they are giving to -- but an organization actively misleading donors to get money. They do their marketing very well, that's for sure
The national organization takes advantage of people who think they are giving money for animal care. Local Shelters receive no regular funding help from the $100 million HSUS budget. People donate money under the pretense that money is going to be used to help animals.
The Humane Society of the United States is nothing but a giant SCAM !!! Wayne Pacelle Is the guy who belongs in prison !!!!

I have no regard for Wayne Pacelle et al and the so-called Humane Society. Their scheme from inception was to destoy a young life in the form of Michael Vick. They found an athlete who is a weakling in terms of intelligence and who should have gone to a school from which he could have graduated with a college education. Pacelle and his cohorts including those who see animals as above humans on the food chain exploited the true mission of a corporation and that of a not for profit organization my making Vick an example. I bet they would never have gone after someone who could fight them intellectually and who possess the capacity to argue the inherent characteristics and historical ramifications of the placard bearing people and its host.

I think Michael Vick is more interested in helping youth, and that is the better focus. He should not have any obligation to the animal rights people in order to work again in the NFL. Really, he could schedule his own speaking campaigns if he likes. Definitely beware of being used by these groups you don't owe them anything, you just simply owe it to yourself to turn this negative into a positive, and if you become passionate about it then you may use the animal rights venue and many other's to accomplish your goals.

Did you actually call a murderer a political prisioner? Really murdering 2 fbi agents is a political crime, I mean I expect leftist tones in the the news writing but come on this is sports. On the topic give me a break let him play football, he served his time. He got more time for killing dogs than some get for beating their wives. Not a Vick fan but if he had been in prision for 2 years for running over someone with a DUI there would be no protests about him playing. Am I the only one that realizes that while it is not right to treat animals like that, it was just an animal. HUMANS are more important than animals.

Sorry, this was a reply to the ignorant afro american person who made the comment about us white people and that dogs are our God. To me they are a savior of sorts. Michael Vick did a HORRIBLE thing and he SHOULD be punished for it.

Complicated situation - Vick just needs to think it all through more than once before he makes commitments. I thought I sensed some sincerity in Pacelle on C-Span - but he was being pressured to be a bit negative by the commentator - but he appeared to be opposed to some of the cynicism the one time I heard him speak.

(to mm3rdeye) I'm hoping to heighten the awareness that there is no such thing as a black person or white person (and we all say it) - but about 3 months ago it occurred to me that we don't exist white or black; so, when you mentioned white in the blog (which is normal to us nowadays) I responded because hopefully it catches on and we can make black and white a thing of the past - which was intended to bring harm. Why because most connotations of the color "black" is related to darkness, evil, sin etcetera; and conversely black does not represent anything beautiful unless it is a black outfit, or black car, or is used in reference to race - but the problem is there is no black race - and black was originally tagged to those of African descent as a negative - and it is also negative - because all people are the human race and are not complete opposites; and children still attribute darkness and evil and black together - and also the brown darker tone of brown skin is beautiful - but when people are called black the mind actually plays tricks on people cause it is not true. Conversely as well, Chinese are beautiful, Africans are beautiful, Caucasians are beautiful, Indians are beautiful and so on. Technicalities are important especially when laying a foundation. There is no foundation built for this house of unity on the earth so long as we are starting our perceptions of one another as complete opposites - to work on unity people have to be aware of more similarities and appreciate unique differences which we all have even from our own homes by the same mother. The world will never be perfect until after the end of the world, but we all will die unless the end of the world comes first, and if we work towards a better world we can all help create a better atmosphere for learning which will help with less poverty ... but will also allow everyone to make their own informed decisions about life and life after death. So, not everyone will care about these things, but spreading words of knowledge and unity will support getting the words to those who do care about these things - and the world can be a more pleasant place for a good time period - when those who want a better environment outnumber those who want a chaotic environment. Chinese are beautiful, Africans are beautiful, Caucasians are beautiful, Indians are beautiful, Milado's are beautiful and so on. People are beautiful - mind, body, soul, and spirit.
